Prepare yourself for a nature that might take your breath away.

The nineteenth section of the Bohusleden Trail starts in Lunden in the District of Tanum and takes walkers to the heart of the wild Kynnefjäll – Vaktarekullen. Prepare yourself for a countryside experience that is out of the ordinary. Along the way you can enjoy dense spruce woodland, magical woodland tarns, heathland and rushing streams.

By the small lake Äntervattnet there is a shelter and a toilet. There is also a shelter at Lake Säveleken where you can stay overnight. Vaktarekullen is the highest point of Kynnefjäll, at 206 metres above sea level. Here, the shepherd boys of old had a good view of their livestock and extensive views across the landscape with few trees.

Today there is a nice cottage with 12 beds, wood, a toilet and a spring with water (which should be boiled). The cottage requires no booking, but prepare to having to share the space.

The farm at Kasebo, situated northeast of Vaktarekullen, is an important connection for walking the Bohusleden Trail and other trails at Kynnefjäll. There is a gravel road here and a parking space.

Surface: Forest path and gravel road

Time: 5-6 h

Don't miss: A stop with overnight at Vaktarkullen. Take the time to leave the trail to visit Vaktarstugan and read the exciting story of the Action Group "Save Kynnefjäll".

How to get here: The start of the section can be reached by public transport. Go to the bus stop Bråmarkenvägen and follow the trail up to Kynnefjäll nature.

Accommodation: There are no proposed places for accommodation along the section, except for the open cottage at the stage destination Vaktarekullen.

About Difficulty Grading

The grading of the trails is based on a common national standard. If you want to read more about this, visit the National Framework for Hiking Trails.

Even and firm ground: The terrain is generally flat. The hike requires no need to use your hands for support. No obstacles. Bridges are always present when crossing waterways.

Uneven and/or soft ground: Some changes in elevation. Certain sections may require hand support to maintain balance. There may be obstacles such as low stiles and short stairs. Minor obstacles like stones and roots. Boardwalks are present.

Loose or slippery ground combined with steep sections: Technical parts require hand support. There may be obstacles such as high stiles and longer stairs. Frequent sections with stones and/or roots. Boardwalks with deeper surrounding water.

Note: One or more of these features may be present along the trail section.
