Fantastic baths, stonemasonry history and plenty of small coves and turquoise lagoons.
In Sotenäs, the Coastal trail, Kuststigen, runs on parts of the much more widespread Soteleden. The municipality has prioritized certain sections of Soteleden and also marked them as Kuststigen. Kuststigen in Sotenäs has 9 different stages.
Bohus-Malmön is a little over 4 kilometers long and 2 kilometers wide rocky island in Sotenäs municipality. The trail takes you in a varied environment past several ancient monuments that testify to the heyday of the stonemason era. At the end of the 19th century, the first cobblestone was formed and the island became one of the most important historical sites regarding the red Bohus granite. From here, shiploads of processed stone were transported to large parts of the world. Today there is no quarry left on the island but the quarries and several stone objects remain on the island.
The hiking trail takes you over rugged rocky landscapes, past fantastic lagoons with fine-grained white sand and crystal clear green-sparkling water that brings to mind Greece. The swimming opportunities are many, both in terms of sandy beaches and rock pools. But discovering Bohus-Malmön is not something that has to happen in the summer. Here is at least as beautiful for the rest of the year.
If you want to stay a little longer, Bohus-Malmö's guest house is located in the middle of the island with cozy hotel rooms, cottages and a restaurant.
